Vasaline as night cream?

i heard that if you put some vasaline on your face over night it will heklp your skin. any opinioins, experiences? i also heard that marilyn moore put it one her skinVasaline as night cream?
I have used vaseline as a nighttime facial moisturizer with no adverse effects; it really locked in moisture and my face looked hydrated in the morning. However, even a thin layer of vaseline can get all over everything, in your hair, in your eyes, and it's a pain. Also, if it is warm and you are prone to sweating, the vaseline will coat your face and block the sweat, which can result in a breakout or just slimy unpleasantness.

I recommend doing a little spot treatment with vaseline around dry, flaky areas (nose, mouth) and using a cream that your skin absorbs more readily over the rest of your face. I use DHC's extra nighttime moisture, and it is fantastic.

Oh, sometimes I put a bit of vaseline on my eyelashes to condition them... careful not to use too much or get it into your eyes.

Bottom line is that vaseline is a very inexpensive way to moisturize your face in a pinch, but there are better ways to keep your face healthily moisurized.Vasaline as night cream?
There was a makeover programme on tv not that long ago - this woman got surgery to remove bags under her eyes - when the surgeon peeled back the skin he found that the bags under her eyes was just vaseline!!! She used it as a mosturiser daily for years.

Bit of a horror story for vaseline lovers there!!!! So i wouldnt recommend using it as a moisturiser but it has its uses, just dont overdo it!
I use that or my Vitamine E stick around my eyes (not a lot, mind you), beside my nose and on my lips at night and it never hurt me. :)
well some people think that it works because proabably theres no reaction to her skin
Vasaline can encourage hair growth, I don't know if it's such a good idea.
it clogs pores terribly + u might get acne!!!!!!

marlyn monroe maybe did it because that time there werent this kind supergood stuff we have today + because she wore tons of make-up + because she could have all the beauty-stuff done so that here pores didnt get clogged...dont know..

however I wouldnt use that!
Petroleum Jelly will just clog your pores and make your bed sheets greasy. Petroleum comes from fossil fuels. ';By locking moisture against the skin, petroleum and mineral oil sit on the skin鈥檚 surface and can potentially block pores. This may cause the appearance of pimples because the skin cannot properly breathe. The use of chemicals such as petroleum can also increase your risk for developing skin cancer.';
Erika, petroleum jelly can moisturize, but it can also clog pores, so I wouldn't put it on acne-prone skin. Another factor in using it is that it leaves greasy or oily marks on bed linens which will wash out only with hot water--which many sheets can't take.

It's great for chapped lips and cracking heels, but it's not worth the bother for anything else.

If you want an overnight moisturizer, use a creme or lotion specified for that purpose. I like Neutrogena's Moisture, the sensitive skin formula, which is non-comedogenic--it won't clog pores. It seems somewhat expensive, but used daily, a bottle lasts 3-5 months.
